The "Lend a Helping Hand" project will provide professional education and training for specialists and social workers supporting children with special needs in Zaparozhye.

Orphans and children with special needs will participate in informal education, creative activity classes and social events, thus improving their lives and life skills.

In August 2008, two classes two orphanages were held by JCC- art-therapists worked with children making cards. Psychologists provided sand therapy classes and communicative trainings and sports therapists helped the children to learn exercises that strengthen the body. At the end of August, an event named 'I love you, my friend' was held at the Volnyansk orphanage. During the event, Gifts in Kind was distributed to the children to allow them to begin the school year in new clothing. Each child took part in eight educational and entertaining 'stations', which include sports competitions, creative and dance classes. After completing each 'station', the children were invited to create their Flower of Happiness (upon which everyone wrote their wishes and thanks).

WJR, JCC and other local sponsors also provided sweets and small gifts of stationery for the children who participated.

In September, the orphanages enjoyed a further two classes. During this month, the children were taught to sew -- they were helped to make toys and they also used clay. Sports instructors worked with the children again to provide physical exercises and sessions. Psychologists provided therapeutic classes and communicative trainings.
