Children’s Initiative Ukraine
Integrated professional services, focusing on strengthening the family unit, are provided to 'at risk' children and aim to remove them and their families from the cycle of risk and welfare dependency, and to help them achieve self-sufficiency.
Support is given in the form of food aid, medical care, medications, rehabilitative equipment loans, home care, winter relief and Mazal Tov (KG), a form of early childhood intervention.
Mazal Tov's aims are to fight the impact of poverty on the child's development, to prevent future academic failure and to integrate children and parents into local Jewish life. Day Care Centres have also been established to provide for the needs of children.
In Ukraine today, the most vulerable children still walk to school without adequate clothing in the freezing winter months; children continue to scavenge for food on the streets, to fetch water for their unplumbed homes and to go without medication, as prices are too high for a family income to manage.
