Subsequent to WJR funded research into the problem of substance abuse in the Jewish community in 2007-8, a follow up project has been developed in response to needs identified in the research.

During the research period, it became clear that JCCs are regarded as organisations capable of effecting the biggest changes in the lifestyles of younger community members.

It was also found that structured leisure time was vital in influencing the behaviour of young people, particularly when adult intervention was kept to a minimum.

The aim of the project is to raise the "at risk" teenage participants' self confidence and to show them how to live a healthy, independent life by developing their creativity, imagination and personal skills.

Working with young people to identify how they benefit from enjoyable activities will enable appropriate strategies to be developed in the fight against substance abuse.
